I am both nervous
and excited to publicize my first EVER blog post! My name
is Lauren. I am originally from Whitby, Ontario, and have been living in
St. Catharine’s for the past 3 years while I work towards completing my undergrad. I am a third year Business Communications
major at Brock University, with a minor in Social Media Appreciation. I am constantly refreshing and
updating my Social Networks and am guilty of the following charges: frequent
tweeting, Instagram lurking, Pinterest pinning and the occasional Facebook creep.
I come from a family of five – rightfully stuck in the middle between my two brothers. Literally – I am ALWAYS shoved to the middle seat on family drives. I love taking advantage of our Canadian climate and hit the slopes and the ice rinks when I have time. As for the warmer months, I lean towards the beaches. I enjoy music but would not consider myself a dedicated iPod-updater. I am, however, known by my friends for my remixes... I constantly mix-up song lyrics and put my own personal twist on songs... mostly accidentally! Hey, it’s just the Lauren touch.
As for my friends and family they are my true
superheroes. My friends help me remain sane when life and all its troubles – or
my family – come knocking, and my family always has my back. We are extremely
close and I honestly could not be more thankful for them. My mom is from a
family of 7, and, lucky for me, a lot of aunts and uncles mean A LOT of
cousins. Just how many? 30. Yes, 30!!! That’s not even including my cousin’s
kids...
Still with me? Sorry, I tend to ramble. I am sure you’re all wondering what got me started with blogging? It is
simple, really: ADED 1P32, Learning in a Digital Context. As I mentioned I am currently attending Brock
University and am taking this online course.
For this course, we are asked to explore the Internet and take notes on the resources it offers. I will be
writing weekly posts relating to course material accompanied with my personal
insights. Not to worry! I know “academic” roughly translates to “snooze fest,”
but I will do my best to keep you readers engaged! The Lauren touch, if you
will.
After this course and my time at Brock University I
am hoping to attend a Postgraduate School for their Public Relations
program. I would fill you in on my school of choice but I do not want
to jinx it (isn’t there some sort of blogger privacy clause?!). Public
Relations representatives require clear communication skills and excellent
writing skills. I am hoping that
blogging will help strengthen both of these attributes. I am hopeful that his course will help with
my overall career choice and give me some guidelines on how to keep a POSITIVE
digital image.
Well, I think it is safe to say that I survived my first blog post! I am going to leave you guys here but not to worry, I'll be back sooner than you think. Thanks for reading and talk to you soon!
xoxo
